Vibe coding for e-commerce
Faster storefront builds, different tradeoffs
Lovable, a leader in AI web design, integrates with Shopify in ways that make building custom storefronts much more accessible.
First, you get a lot of design flexibility, without wrestling with an opinionated template.
Even better, personalization or custom workflows that used to require Shopify apps, which have all moved to monthly subscriptions, can now come to life through your prompts.
That’s the exciting part.
But there is a catch. Well, a few:
Some ecommerce-specific analytics are missing (e.g. site visits, abandoned carts)
Lovable tends to rebuild its own version of features that are already built into Shopify
They don’t use the same frameworks, so you end up building interfaces between the two
These can make your website more fragile and difficult to maintain.
One could argue that some of the issues above could be avoided by simply telling the Lovable agent to follow Shopify-specific primitives. But that implies you already have experience building stores in Shopify.
Which brings me to my point: AI is a formidable tool, and the best companion... for those who know what they are doing.
