The tiny reasons we stick with an App
Sometimes the winning feature is not on the spec sheet.
Fellow reader JC Bouglé wrote in to share how he tried using Apple Reminders following my post, but eventually settled on Google Tasks.
Apple gets the ecosystem reputation, but Google makes a pretty strong case too.
Of course, I asked what triggered him to switch and/or made him stick to Tasks.
I was eager to find a counterargument or an edge case where Google wins.
His response:
Surprisingly, the font ;-)
That caught me off guard for a sec, but when you think about it, it makes sense.
At this level, both apps already have all the bells and whistles. So the deciding factor moves back to something harder to measure: taste.
A useful reminder when building products: sometimes the thing that wins is not the longest feature list, but the little details that speak to your users.
Technology should increase leverage, not complexity.
If you want more clarity around your tech stack and to stop wasting time on the wrong setup, let’s talk.
